This is perfect for anyone wanting to travel the fabled Garden Route, which officially runs between Mossel Bay and Storms River. The allusion to gardens can be misleading. Don’t be expecting many quaint, tidy flower beds or ugly little gnomes. Instead you should prepare yourself for some of the coolest coastal towns on the planet and some truly epic scenery. Good places to hang out include the bars and beaches of Plettenburg Bay and Knysna.

You’ll also love Storms River, which boasts the bungy jump to end all bungy jumps. One of our favourites is the area around Oudtshourn, which is all about ostriches. If the whim takes you, you can even choose to ride one. Just hold on very tight.

From the whales of Hermanus and the ostriches of Oudtshoorn to the surf beaches at Jeffreys Bay, there lots going on between these two very cool cities. This option takes in the whole of the Garden route and a whole load of lovely coastal towns not far from Durban.

This ticket also gives you the opportunity to explore some of the more remote expanses on the coastline of the Eastern Cape. The area by the ocean, south of Mthatha is always very popular with backpackers from around the World, and provides quite a difference experience to the well-oiled scene on the Garden Route. One night at the very chilled out Coffee Bay can easily turn into many more, as you settle into a lifestyle that involves little more than the odd afternoon beach stroll, and a drink or two every morning, noon and night.

This is the biggest ticket and is very popular for those flying into one city and out of the other. Particular highlights include the stretch between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, which includes the very scenic and sexy Garden Route, the big and beautiful Humpback Whales of Hermanus, and the surfing utopia of Jeffreys Bay.

This ticket gives you the option of either travelling via the Drakensburg Mountains or going through the colourful little country of Swaziland. The Drakensburg are an awe-inspiring Mountain range, dominated by skeletal peaks, surrounded by lush bush and forest. If you choose to go via Swaziland, then prepare for a whole new cultural experience. This very green, and verdant land is ruled by a King with thirteen different wives, the most recent of which was only 17. Apparently he was fined a cow by members of her regiment for this transgression. Make of that what you will.
