Duration For a minimum of 12 months as an equal member of your carefully selected host family. Season All year around. Applicant requirements You must be aged between 18-26 years with Matric or an equivalent. You must have at least 200 hours non-family practical childcare experience gained within the last 3 years. - Submit your completed application to a local interviewer (details on the website)
- Attend an interview
- Once accepted, communicate with potential host families
- Visit the US Embassy in your country to submit your visa application
- We arrange all of your visa papers and flights for the USA. Relax and let us take care of it for you!Cost of programme Non-refundable Application Fee of R1499 – payable on the day of application submission (which includes the application process and pre-departure).
Program Fee of R3500 – payable 10-days prior to departure (which includes basic insurance cover and your flight from Johannesburg to New York plus a 4-day orientation program.
Expected earnings Au Pairs: will receive weekly pocket money of US$195.75 (tax free) with a US$500 study allowance.
Au Pair Extraordinaires: will receive weekly pocket money of US$250 (tax free) with a US$500 study allowance.
Educare Companions: will receive weekly pocket money of US$146.81 (tax free) with a US$1000 study allowance.
Cost of living None – only personal items. You may even find your family spoiling you! Flight subsidy Yes – your flight from Johannesburg to New York is included in your program fee. Friends travelling together No Travel after work Yes, 13 month J-1 Visitor Exchange Visa with the option to extend for up to a further 12 months. Will I be met on arrival Yes, you will attend a four-day Orientation Program at a hotel near New York. There you will meet other au pairs, take part in training sessions and learn what to expect from the year. There is also time to relax and enjoy some sightseeing in the Big Apple! Visa With Au Pair in America, you travel on an Exchange Visitor J-1 Visa, the only legal way to live and work as an au pair in the US.
