Arrive at any time - and feel free to explore. Slightly intimidating but exceptionally invigorating this city will let your imaginations run wild in a fury of colour and commotion. Witness stark contrasts in almost everything and try some super tasty local food.
Day 2: Agra
Travel by early morning train to the Muslim city of Agra. No visit is complete without at least one trip here! Agra is best known as the site of the Taj Mahal. Visit this icon of Mughal architecture either in the morning or late afternoon for
the best light. Ride one of the cycle rickshaws to visit the Lal Qila or Red Fort, the Taj’s less famous, but no less impressive sister monument.
Days 3-4: Jaipur
Take a bus ride to the capital of Rajasthan.  Clothed in pink stucco, wide-avenued Jaipur is one of the most important heritage cities in the country, and home to India’s second most visited site, the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds.
Follow in the footsteps of the royal harem or ride an elephant to the cliff-top fort palace at Amber - one of the most spectacular in India.
Days 5-6: Pushkar
Drive over Snake Mountain en route to Pushkar. Pushkar is the site of the world’s only temple to the Hindu god of creation Brahma. No Hindu pilgrimage is considered complete until the pilgrim bathes in the sacred waters of Pushkar Lake; indeed, the city is so sacred that no meat, alcohol or eggs are allowed within the city. Try out a camel ride in the desert or wander the markets of this holy centre.
Days 7-9: Udaipur
Continue southeast to Udaipur, India’s most romantic city and famous worldwide for its plethora of breathtaking lakes and Raj-era palaces. Most famous of these is the Lake Palace, an island-palace where the white marble buildings entirely cover a small island in Pichola Lake. Day 12: Mumbai
Rise at dawn to watch the morning ritual at the Sassoon Docks, South Mumbai’s main fish loading and trading centre. Face westwards out to sea and check out the Gateway to India. From here boats leave for Elephanta Island, famous for its rock carved temples. In the evening, visit one of Mumbai’s many top-notch restaurants, and sample the amazing nightlife.
